Meet the Team
Our Optometrists
We have three Optometrists (ophthalmic opticians) but occasionally other locums may help to cover sickness or holidays.

Has worked at the practice since 1973 and is the great grandson of the founder of Wallwork Opticians. Outside of work he has a great interest in sports generally but in swimming in particular, still trying to compete despite the onward rushing years. Due to his interest in sport he has undertaken further studies and has extra qualifications in sports vision and has lectured to colleagues locally and at topan international conference on the subject
Nick Wallwork

“Nick is the latest addition to the Wallwork dynasty. He studied at, and graduated from Cardiff University, and then went on to gain valuable experience in the Oxford area. Nick joined the practice early in 2008 and is performing professional eye examinations at the practice as well as gaining valuable experience doing locum work in the surrounding area. Outside of work, Nick is a keen and competitive squash player.”
Audrey ran her own practice in Oldham for many years before deciding that she
preferred
life without the business hassles. She started here in 1996 working one and a half days a week as well as still helping out at her old practice. Out of the practice she has more cerebral pursuits with a keen interest in bridge as well as topstudying Spanish.
Our Dispensing Opticians
We aim to always use qualified dispensers who have satisfied the Association of Dispensing Opticians, by examination, that they are able and suited to the job.

Nicky started with us in September 2002 and is our main dispenser. She comes from an optical family and relocated North to be near her family again having spent an interesting time working with some prestigious practices in the London area for the last few years. As well as her optical career she took a couple of years out to travel and qualified as a teacher of English as a foreign language, working mainly in Hong Kong. Interests include sport and fitness, travelling and spending time with her family again.

“Tony has a multitude of responsibilities ranging from optical technician to reception cover via administration. He has now completed his training within the framework of the Association of Dispensing Opticians and is a fully qualified Dispensing Optician. Tony is also a leading Swimming Coach, particularly with disabled athletes, and has recently been to Denmark, Germany and South Africa with the Great Britain Disability swimming team. He is hoping to be selected for the 2008 Paralympics in Beijing. When he can find the time he is also a keen Manchester City supporter.”
Our Support Staff

A roving role here dealing mainly with administration and reception. Val studied computing at university back in the 70s and became involved with the business mainly after leaving Ferranti when babies started to arrive in the mid 80s. Outside the practice she enjoys squash as well as family life where a budding future optician has been nurtured, Nick (our eldest) shows a strong interest in carrying on the family interest and is at present studying Optics at Cardiff topUniversity.

“Long-serving member of staff Jackie grew up three doors away and still lives close by, her local knowledge and contacts helping to keep reception running smoothly. Her three young girls keep her busy out of work but she still finds time to follow an interest in alternative medicine and is studying for a qualification in Reiki.”top

Gaynor joined our team in September 2004 to work on our reception. She is another local girl, living just a few minutes drive away. She previously worked for an IT company, Getronics, on Salford Quays, for 12 years.
Gaynor has 3 grown up children and in her spare time likes reading, gardening and keeping up-to-date with all the TV soaps.
