N.H.S. Free Sight Test and/or Optical Voucher

Thanks to the NHS Free Sight Test legislation you are eligible for free sight tests if you are:

  • 60 or over
  • under 16
  • 16, 17 or 18 and in full-time education
  • prescribed complex lenses
  • registered blind or partially sighted
  • suffering from diabetes
  • suffering from glaucoma or have ocular hypertension and have been advised by an ophthalmologist that are at risk of glaucoma
  • 40 or over and the parent, brother, sister, son or daughter of a glaucoma patient
  • Or if you, or your partner, receive:Income Support
  • Jobseeker's Allowance (Income-based)
  • Working Families' Tax Credit (at maximum rate, or reduced by £70 or less)
  • Disabled Person's Tax Credit (at maximum rate, or reduced by £70 or less)

If you are entitled to a free Sight Test you may also be entitled to Free NHS Optical Vouchers

The NHS limits the regularity of sight tests
unless there are specific reasons for an ‘early’ retest. Please check with our receptionist if it is less than two years since your last NHS sight test (one year if you are diabetic, have a family history of glaucoma or are under the age of 17).

 

Are You Entitled To An Optical Voucher Towards The Cost Of Your Spectacles Or Contact Lenses?

If you are entitled to free NHS sight tests then you may also be eligible
for optical vouchers towards the cost of spectacles or contact lenses. You are entitled to vouchers if you are:

  • Under 16
  • 16, 17 or 18 and in full-time education
    prescribed complex lenses
  • Or if you, or your partner, receive:Income Support
  • Jobseeker's Allowance (Income-based)
  • Working Families Tax Credit (at maximum rate, or reduced by £70 or less)
  • Disabled Person's Tax Credit (at maximum rate, or reduced by £70 or less)
