As a practice we are generally interested in sport
and Ian still competes at swimming as well as taking a keen interest in most sports.

To help use this interest for the benefit of our patients Ian Wallwork undertook post-graduate studies at UMIST and passed their advanced Sports Vision Module and has lectured to the annual conference of the Sports Vision Association at Loughborough University.

What this study showed was that every sport can have its own very specific visual demands and although no one is going to have all the answers straight away we do know how to go about getting the relevant information for different sports due to the contacts made through sports vision study.

Sports vision can involve in-depth vision assessment and training
at times but what is a much more common level of involvement is just provision of the correct form of eyewear for a particular sport. To help in this department we have a range of water based, skiing and cycling goggles and glasses which can be, or already are, adapted for optical prescriptions.

We hope to help all different levels of sports people
and a good example is that we fitted Jaap Stam with lenses when he was playing for our local team (Man Utd) and it was rewarding to think that we were trusted with that responsibility. It was also just as exciting to hear from the father of a young girl that the same lenses that we fitted to her had dramatically improved her confidence on the field and along with it her performance.

An often overlooked area is that of physical protection
we have a range of squash goggles available for trial. Squash is the only sport where there is a specific British Standard for build quality for sport safety but we feel that these are also useful for other sports such as badminton, tennis and we have also supplied these for use by a hockey goal keeper, they can carry a prescription where necessary. These protectors can be taken for trial at your sport so you can see how they perform before you purchase – look after your eyes
